An apple a day? No problem.
This was one of those too much coffee at 6pm and now it’s midnight and I can’t sleep ideas. They are always the best! Caramel apples are a Fall staple, but they are messy and you can never actually finish a whole one. In stepped apple nachos, which are all the rage right now with good reason. An easy grab it piece by piece caramel apple! But who wants to wash, core, chop and soak all those apples? Not me.
In steps my trusty Thrive freeze dried apples! They were the Q-pon this month so I grabbed up a couple big cans. They are such an easy snack for the boys to grab and munch on and all the prep work is already done.
These are super simple and we whipped them up in under 10 minutes.
Step One: Lay your apple slices in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a Silpat.
Step Two: Melt caramel and drizzle over apples. You can buy and melt the store bought caramel cubes or ice cream topping or you can make your own. We made our own 6 minute caramel in the microwave.
Mix 1/4 cup butter, 1/2 cup white sugar, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup corn syrup and a pinch of salt in a microwave safe bowl (I used my Demarle round mold for easy cleaning later.)
Heat for 6 minutes, stirring every 90 seconds.
Step Three: Melt chocolate chips in 30 second increments until melted. Drizzle over apples and caramel.
Step Four: Refrigerate or freeze until set. Store in airtight container.
These would be a great treat to bring to a classroom party, Harvest party or Halloween party!
